The factors that drive your range
1. Years of operating records
Depth of history is the foundation. A company with many years of continuous operating records — decisions made, problems solved, outcomes logged — offers far more training value than a young company with a thin file. Several years of operating history is the baseline Mode looks for; more depth strengthens the fit.
2. Volume of records
The sheer amount of material matters: internal email, team messages, documents, tickets, work orders, CRM history, project files. A larger, richer archive gives AI labs more to learn from and supports a higher place in the range.
3. Connected context across the business
Disconnected files teach little. The value rises sharply when records connect — when a decision in one department can be followed through its effects in another, across the systems your team actually uses. Companies whose records span multiple departments and multiple systems present a fuller picture of how a business operates end to end.
4. The uniqueness of your workflows and decisions
Common data is worth less. Records that capture judgment — how your people price, escalate, negotiate, schedule, hire, and fix things in your specific trade — are harder for AI labs to get anywhere else. That scarcity is value. This is also why the identity of the people in the records is not the point: the labs are buying the logic of how the work gets done, not names.
5. Completeness and eligibility baseline
Before any of the above is weighed, a company has to clear the program's baseline:
- Legal: 10+ employees
- Accounting, finance, and medical: 15+ employees
- All other businesses and nonprofits: 50+ employees
- Location: US, Canada, UK, or Australia
- History: several years of operating records
Companies below these minimums are not reviewed, regardless of their data.

What doesn't count
- A customer list by itself. Names and contact details are not what AI labs are paying for — and personal information is de-identified before any data is used. The value is in the operating record, not the identities in it.
- A big number with no history behind it. Revenue or headcount alone does not set the range; a smaller company with deep, connected, well-kept records can present a stronger file than a larger company with fragmented ones.
- Estimates from anyone but Mode. Brokers and websites can describe the range. Only Mode's review of your actual records determines your figure.
How the process works
- Apply — submit your company's basic information.
- Review — Mode assesses your operating records against the factors above.
- LOI — if there is a fit, Mode issues a letter of intent with your figure.
- Agree & Export — you license an agreed copy of your data. Your originals stay with you.
- Deliver — the agreed copy is transferred, with personal information de-identified.
- Get Paid — payment follows delivery under your agreement.
Mode's stated timeline is approximately three months from first conversation to payment. Checking whether your company qualifies costs nothing, and your company never pays a fee — if an affiliate introduced you, that fee is paid by Mode, not taken from your payment.
FAQ
How much is my business data worth?
Mode's published program range is $100K–$5M per company. Where a company lands in that range is determined by Mode's review of its records — mainly the years and volume of operating history, how connected the records are across departments and systems, and how unique the documented workflows and decisions are. No exact figure can be given before that review.
Can I improve my company's position before applying?
You cannot manufacture history, but you can present what you have completely. Applications that account for the full span of a company's records — across departments and systems, not just one team's files — give Mode's review the clearest picture of the operating record.
Do I give up my data if I license it?
No. You license an agreed copy of your operating data. Your originals stay with your company, and your business keeps operating exactly as before.
What happens to private or personal information in our records?
The data is de-identified before use. AI labs are licensing the operational logic — how work is done and decisions are made — not the identities of your employees or customers.
What does this cost my company?
Nothing. Mode pays your company for the license. There is no application fee and no broker fee charged to your company; if someone introduced you to the program, their fee is paid by Mode.
