Your Nonprofit's Operating Records Are an Asset

Your organization runs on records. Years of program operations, service delivery logs, intake workflows, training materials, and internal processes — the documented knowledge of how your mission actually gets done, day after day.

AI companies need exactly that kind of real-world operating record to train their systems, and Mode Inc licenses it. Mode pays businesses and nonprofits a published program range of $100K–$5M to license an agreed copy of their operating data for AI training. Mode's own program announcement names nonprofits as eligible — this is not a business-only program that nonprofits have to squeeze into.

Nothing is sold out from under you. Your originals stay with your organization. The licensed copy is de-identified. And no figure is promised to anyone: Mode reviews each organization and sets the value itself.

If your nonprofit has 50+ staff and years of operating records, this page explains what qualifies, how the process works, and the questions your board should ask before you start.

What Kind of Nonprofit Data?

The value is in how your organization operates — not in who your donors are. Mode licenses operating records such as:

  • Program operations — program designs, enrollment and scheduling records, service calendars, capacity and utilization logs
  • Service delivery records — de-identified delivery histories, completion and outcome logs at the operational level, site and regional operating records
  • Internal workflows — standard operating procedures, staff training materials, intake and routing processes, vendor and administrative records, facilities and logistics documentation

Two boundaries are absolute:

  • This is not your donor list. Donor identities, mailing lists, and personal contact data are not what this program licenses, and Mode does not buy them.
  • Data is de-identified. The licensed copy goes through de-identification — the value to AI labs is the operational logic of how work gets done, not the names of the people involved.

Who Qualifies

Mode reviews every organization individually, but the published fit for nonprofits is:

  • 50+ employees/staff
  • Based in the US, Canada, the UK, or Australia
  • Several years of operating records — a longer, well-documented operating history strengthens the fit
  • Real, repeatable operations — programs and services delivered through documented systems, not one-off activity

Smaller nonprofits below the staffing threshold do not currently fit the program. If your organization meets the profile above, the first step is a free qualification check — Mode makes the eligibility and valuation decision, not FiftyKPlug.

How It Works

The process is the same one Mode runs for every organization, in six steps:

  1. Apply — Submit your organization through the qualification check at 50KPLUG.COM. It costs nothing to ask.
  2. Review — Mode reviews your organization's size, operating history, and records to decide eligibility and value.
  3. LOI — If Mode wants to proceed, you receive a letter of intent setting out the proposed terms. Your board reviews it like any other agreement — you are under no obligation until you sign.
  4. Agree & Export — You agree the scope of records to be licensed, and the agreed copy is exported. Your originals never leave your organization.
  5. Deliver — The de-identified copy is delivered to Mode for AI training use under the license terms.
  6. Get Paid — Mode pays your organization the licensed amount it set in review.

Mode's stated timeline is approximately 3 months from first conversation to payment. That is Mode's published estimate, not a guarantee — review depth and export readiness vary by organization.

One more fact your treasurer will ask about: your organization pays no affiliate fee. If a FiftyKPlug affiliate introduced your organization, Mode pays that affiliate's fee — never the organization.

What This Is NOT

Boards should be clear on what this program is not:

  • Not a grant. There is no application essay, no funder, no reporting cycle, no restricted-use award. It is a commercial license of records your organization already owns.
  • Not fundraising. No donor is asked for anything. No campaign, no gala, no appeal. This is earned revenue from an existing asset, not contributed revenue.
  • Not selling your list. Your donor list, your mailing list, and the identities of the people you serve are not the product. The license covers de-identified operating records — how the work runs, not who gave or who received.

FAQ — Questions a Board Would Ask

1. Are nonprofits actually eligible, or is this a business program?

Nonprofits are explicitly eligible. Mode's own program announcement names nonprofits, and the qualification standard for nonprofits is 50+ staff with several years of operating records, based in the US, Canada, the UK, or Australia.

2. Will donor or beneficiary identities be shared?

No. The program licenses de-identified operating records — program operations, service delivery records, and internal workflows. It does not license donor lists or personal data, and the licensed copy is de-identified before delivery. What AI labs are buying is the operational logic of how an organization runs, not the names attached to it.

3. Do we give up ownership or control of our records?

No. You license an agreed copy. Your original records stay with your organization, and the scope of what is licensed is set in the agreement your board reviews before anything is exported.

4. How much would our organization receive — and who decides?

Mode decides, after review. Mode's published program range is $100K–$5M, and where an organization lands depends on what its review finds — the volume, history, and connected context of its operating records. No amount can be quoted or promised before Mode reviews your organization, and any page or person who guarantees your organization a figure is not speaking for the program.

5. How long does it take, and what does it cost us?

Mode's stated timeline is approximately 3 months from first conversation to payment — an estimate, not a guarantee. The qualification check is free, and your organization pays no affiliate fee: Mode pays the referring affiliate, never the organization.

For nonprofit leaders — check if your organization qualifies.

Go to 50KPLUG.COM and choose the company qualification door. The check is free, and Mode — not a salesperson — decides eligibility and value.

Know an organization that fits?

The second door at 50KPLUG.COM is the affiliate door: join free, introduce a qualifying company or nonprofit, and Mode pays the affiliate fee when a deal closes. Mode pays it — the organization never does.
